Who we are:
The Federal Defender Office, a division
of the Defender Association of Philadelphia and incorporated as a
non-profit organization under the laws of Pennsylvania, was founded in 1972
to provide legal representation to individuals who are in need of criminal
representation and who are financially unable to afford counsel. The
Federal Defender Office serves the Eastern District of Pennsylvania
pursuant to the Criminal Justice Act, as amended, 18 U.S.C. §
3006A(g)(2)(B).
The Federal Defender Office also
coordinates, assists and offers training programs to the Criminal Justice
Act Panel members in the district, and provides educational programs for
law students attending local law schools.
